#Blepharitis causes red, swollen and itchy eyelids. For some types of Blepharitis, self-care at home help soothe the symptoms by washing your eyelids daily.
Here’s how you can treat Blepharitis at home;
What will you need?
- Baby shampoo
- Cottonballs / Qtips
- Gauze / Washcloth / Small Towel
- Warm Water
How to clean your eyelids?
- Add 2-3 drops of baby shampoo to a cup of warm purified water.
- Soak gauze, washcloth or small towel, in warm water, wiring out the excess water, and apply to both eyes for 10 minutes. Re-wet with warm water again as necessary.
- Gently massage closed eyelids for 30 seconds, applying light pressure along the eyelashes to squeeze out oils.
- Put a clean cloth over your index finger and dip your finger into the soapy warm water solution (alternatively you can use a clean cotton ball / Qtip). Use this to gently scrub the base of your eyelashes for 30 seconds (in direction from nose to the ear).
- Rinse both eyes with cool water to get rid of any residues. Gently dry the eyes by patting closed eyelids with soft towel.
- Do this twice daily for 7days, or continue as necessary.
- Ask your doctor if you need to apply an antibiotic eye ointment after the procedure.
